On Ripples—A Boundary Layer-Theoretical Definition

چکیده

Once the first initial ripples have developed, they form according to actual flow forces and sediment properties. In this paper, a semianalytical approach determine length of developed is presented. The theory assumes disturbances at bed surface corresponding separations resulting from an individual respective boundary layer. What causes rhythmic perturbations not subject paper. Based on layer theory, explains possible physical background for existence in cohesion-free sediments. At same time, provides distinction dunes: are sand waves affected by viscous sublayer, dunes where case. Applications Earth, Mars, Titan shown.

On the Arctic Boundary Layer On the Arctic Boundary Layer

The boundary layer is the part of the atmosphere that is in direct contact with the ground via turbulent motion. At mid-latitudes the boundary layer is usually one or a few kilometers deep, while in the Arctic it is much more shallow, typically a few hundred meters or less. The reason is that here the absolute temperature increases in the lowest kilometer, making the boundary layer semi-permane...

Some theoretical models for solitary structures of boundary layer waves

Solitary electrostatic structures have been observed in and around auroral zone field lines at various altitudes ranging from close to the ionosphere, to the magnetopause low-latitude boundary layer (LLBL) and cusp on the dayside, and to the plasma sheet boundary layer on the nightside. In this review, various models based on solitons/double layers and BGK modes or phase space holes are discuss...

Influence of Afterbody and Boundary Layer on Cavitating Flow

The characteristics of a cavitation water tunnel test setup and the experiments of cavitation around different models are given in this paper. Models of test are formed from combination of head and variable length afterbody. The experiments are performed initially with the smooth head and then with the roughened head. Cavitation initiates both in the wake and after the head. If the nose of mode...

Effect of the diffusive boundary layer on benthic mineralization and O2 distribution: A theoretical model analysis

On the basis of a dynamic diagenetic model, we evaluate and discuss the effect of the diffusive boundary layer (DBL) on benthic O2 exchange and O2 consuming pathways. The analysis documents that the DBL has only minor importance for the annual O2 uptake of coastal cohesive sediments. Imposing static DBL thicknesses of 300–900 mm decreased the annual O2 uptake by only 2–10% in comparison to a si...
